Find out about the amazing dental care alternatives that you can find at Gram Sustainable. Australian made and plastic free products with natural ingredients

A new sustainable, Australian-made dental care range comes to Gram Sustainable

A new sustainable, Australian-made dental care range comes to Gram:

We've posted about plastic-free tooth-care alternatives before, but there's a new player with Australian-made products that we want to shout-out about.

EKO is an eco-friendly Australian-made dental care alternative that makes plastic-free tooth-care products using natural ingredients.

EKO Tooth Tabs hit the Australian market (and our Gram shelves) in November last year with their locally-made, plastic-free dental care products.

What plastic-free dental care products can I find at Gram Sustainable?

At Gram Sustainable you can find:

  • tooth tabs made locally using natural ingredients,
  • bamboo toothbrushes with replaceable heads,
  • refillable wax silk dental floss,
  • metal tongue scrapers.

If you're not familiar with tooth tabs they're a toothpaste alternative that comes in the form of a soft chewable tablet.  Pop one in your mouth, crush it and with a wet toothbrush, it turns into toothpaste.

Their toothbrushes also have interchangeable heads to maximize their low-waste philosophy and offer an affordable solution when it comes to eco-friendly alternatives products.

Why are tooth tabs better than toothpaste?

The tabs come in a nice glass jar that you can easily refill with your favourite tooth tabs,  repurpose or reuse.

Also, conventional toothpaste usually contains harsh chemicals, detergents, abrasives, humectants, artificial flavours and preservatives. Eko tooth tabs only contain natural ingredients, a mild abrasive and natural mint flavour and sweetener.

And as they don’t contain water, they are also preservatives-free

Tooth tabs aren't entirely new, they've been around for a few years. Until now, they've all come to us shipped from Europe.

Now, we can all be both plastic-free and sustainable when taking care of our teeth.

How much waste is produced in Australia from toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes?

If you haven't considered how much waste is produced from our daily 4 minute routine, here's what it looks like over a year in Australia:

- 70 million toothpaste tubes end up in landfills and oceans,

- 30 million plastic toothbrushes join them,

- 750,000 litres of harmful chemicals are leached into our waterways to harm our native flora and fauna.

EKO Tooth Tabs founder Chelsea Ovijach says, 'Lots of people think you have to be some kind of eco-warrior to have an impact - but the truth is, making small changes to your daily routine adds up over time. If you do nothing but switch up your oral care routine, you still contribute to saving tonnes of plastic waste from ending up in our oceans and landfills. ...The people who make the biggest difference are the ones who do little things, consistently.'

The people who make the biggest difference are the ones who do little things, consistently.

Like at Gram, Chelsea identified that the reason many people are hesitant to make sustainable changes is because there are so many barriers in the way.

Products that are marketed as eco-friendly can often be ridiculously overpriced, inconvenient or hard to implement. But if you make it easy, people will change.

The EKO Tooth Tab range includes bamboo toothbrushes with replaceable heads, refillable waxed silk dental floss and metal tongue scrapers.

This amazing dental care alternative are all plastic-free and available at Gram Sustainable.
