How to Compost Your Natureflex Packaging?

How to Compost Your Natureflex Packaging?

At Gram Sustainable, we’re committed to reducing waste at every step—from the food we deliver to the packaging it arrives in. That’s why we use NatureFlex®, a certified home-compostable material made from renewable plant-based resources.

We know packaging can be confusing, even when it's compostable. So we’ve put together a simple guide to help you compost our NatureFlex® wrappers and make the most of your compost at home.

Why NatureFlex®?

We choose NatureFlex® because it offers the perfect balance of freshness and sustainability. It creates a natural barrier against moisture and oxygen, which helps keep our food fresher for longer — without relying on traditional plastic films.

This means:

  • Our products arrive to you in optimal condition
  • Packaging can be composted at home
  • You get the benefit of zero plastic, without compromising on quality

By using NatureFlex®, we're able to protect the integrity of our food while supporting a waste-free future — so you can enjoy your order knowing it’s better for you and better for the environment.

What is NatureFlex®?

NatureFlex® is a clear, flexible film made from sustainably sourced wood pulp. It looks like plastic but breaks down completely in a well-maintained home compost system. It’s certified to the Australian home compost standard (AS 5810), so you can trust it will break down safely and naturally.

How to Compost Our Packaging – Step by Step

1. Cut or Tear Into Small Pieces

To help it break down more efficiently, cut or tear the wrapper into pieces roughly 3–5 cm in size. Smaller pieces compost faster and more evenly.

2. Add It to Your Compost Bin

NatureFlex® is a carbon-rich material (a 'brown'), so it’s best to balance it with ‘green’ materials like food scraps or garden waste. Avoid adding wrappers that are heavily soiled with food or oil—give them a quick scrape if needed.

3. Mix and Maintain Your Compost

Like all compost materials, NatureFlex® breaks down best when there’s enough oxygen and moisture. Give your compost a stir regularly and keep it moist but not wet.

4. Let It Break Down

In a healthy compost system, NatureFlex® typically breaks down in 6 to 12 weeks, depending on conditions like temperature and airflow. You can expect it to break down just like leaves or paper.

Why It Matters

By composting our NatureFlex® packaging, you’re:

  • Diverting waste from landfill
  • Returning nutrients to the soil
  • Supporting a circular, low-impact food system

We’re proud to use packaging that aligns with our mission and your values. Together, we’re helping make sustainable living more accessible and practical—one meal at a time.

A Few Things to Remember

  • NatureFlex® is designed for home composting, not industrial composting or kerbside green bins (unless your council specifically accepts it).
  • Don’t confuse NatureFlex® with standard biodegradable or “degradable” plastic—they are not the same.
  • If you’re storing used wrappers before composting, keep them dry to avoid mould or odours.
